Safety with repeated use

Pressurized containers, housings and tanks, e.g. hydrogen tanks, are tested in test chambers. The energies released are sometimes very high.

Merkle CAE Solutions carries out the mathematical verification of the test chambers, taking into account the test specimens. The verification can be carried out for tests with water as well as with compressed air or other media. The basic dimensioning as well as the optimization of critical areas can be carried out in consultation with the customer.

Containment must always be ensured for the test chambers, i.e. no fragments of the test specimen may leave the chamber. If the chamber is used repeatedly for tests, it must also be ensured that safe operation can be demonstrated for the expected burst numbers.

So-called sacrificial elements, which are interchangeable, can also be used here.

We also use FE methods to design chambers that are to be used for testing batteries in the event of fire.
