Simulation in shipbuilding

For our subsidiary Beluga Chartering GmbH, we produced a simulation to calculate the stress on the ship's deck caused by the loading.

Stress analysis for Beluga Chartering GmbH

The wholly owned subsidiary is part of the corporate group of the project and heavy lift shipping company Beluga Shipping with headquarters in Bremen. According to the Institute of Shipping Economics and Logistics, Beluga is the world market leader in the standard heavy lift segment with crane capacities of more than 250 tons.

Beluga was contracted to ship seven Rubber-Tyred Gantry Cranes (RTGs) from China to Italy. The gantry cranes were each 30 meters long, 13 meters wide and 26 meters high, there was a starboard overhang of twelve meters. The chartering plan had been manufactured by the Beluga engineering team, and the on-board 2×120 cranes lifted the container gantry cranes on deck.

SALTA ENGINEERING investigated in advance the stress on the ship's deck caused by the loading and sea transport of these gantry cranes, each weighing 200 tons. For the loading procedure and the placement of the RTGs on board of the multipurpose heavy lift carrier SALTA ENGINEERING worked out corresponding recommendations.

The simulations for this were carried out by Merkle & Partner on behalf of SALTA ENGINEERING.
