Comparison of test and calculation of a belt buckle

Strength analysis with consideration of contact, nonlinear material properties and large deformations

merkle-partner-belt buck

Task/ Calculation

A real test was carried out for a belt buckle, which is now to be simulated using the finite element method (FEM). It is to be checked to what extent the computational results and statements are congruent with the test results. This would be the basis for dispensing with frequent tests in the future, e.g. for design changes. Belt blocks are part of the occupant restraint system in vehicles to which the seat belt is attached.

Goal/ Benefit

Strength analysis with consideration of contact, nonlinear material characteristics and large deformations. The aim is to ensure maximum safety with increasingly lighter and more compact designs.

The deformations and forces coincide very well. The plastic strains could only be reproduced correctly in part.
